Social media is a significant part of our lives. People use the internet for different reasons. While some use it as an excellent means of networking with people around the globe, others see it as a haven where their daily business transactions thrive. With the teeming numbers of internet users all over the world, the multiple advantages of easy accessibility to the internet cannot be overemphasized. However, with this access also comes several pitfalls resulting from online exposure; one of which is internet trolling.
Internet trolling happens when a person intentionally creates discord over the internet by initiating quarrels or using inflammatory statements that could provoke a reaction from other internet users. People who troll, otherwise known as “internet trolls” are located in almost every corner of the web and implore specific acts of trolling such as bullying, intimidation to express their views. Asides trolling, direct message threats have also become increasingly popular and uncontrollable.
As Christy Ann Martine said, “Internet trolls spend their days trying to fill up their empty souls with the pain of others.”
